Health extension: Yesterday, June 3, Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra signed a supreme decree extending the state of health in Peru for 90 days from Wednesday, June 10. This is NOT an extension of the national quarantine, although social distancing and wearing masks will be required for the foreseeable future. The Peruvian Ministry of Health (MINSA), the National Institute of Health and the EsSalud Health Social Security Agency are responsible for developing an action plan to monitor, contain and treat new cases of COVID-19 in Peru. The Peruvian government will continue to purchase the goods and services needed to combat the spread of COVID-19. Additional funding has been allocated to regional governments to hire medical staff and purchase equipment needed to contain and treat COVID-19. Quarantine measures: Peru`s national state of emergency and quarantine measures are in place until Tuesday, June 30. The mandatory curfew in Lima (and most parts of the country) starts at 9:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 a.m.
The curfew in the regions of Ancash (only in the coastal provinces of Santa, Canta and Huarmey), Ica, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Loreto, Piura, Tumbes and Ucayali is from 18:00 to 04:00. The Sunday curfew will remain in effect throughout Peru for the extended duration of the state of emergency. Limit your time outdoors, take your ID and phone with you, and remember that wearing a face mask in public is mandatory. We encourage all U.S. citizens in Peru to comply with Peruvian government quarantine measures and follow the instructions of Peruvian authorities. Emergency repatriation flights: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Peruvian government continues to allow limited emergency repatriation flights for U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPRs) to return to the United States, while Jorge Chávez International Airport and international borders remain closed. The U.S. Embassy urges all U.S. citizens wishing to leave Peru to contact one of our travel partners directly to purchase a ticket for a repatriation flight.
