I`m definitely a fan of Leatherman, this is my third. The fit and finish are superb, as is the presentation (a very nice gift box with Cordura case). The tools (including the knife) are unlockable and therefore UK Carry legal, which for me was the appeal of this model as there are not many British multitools that have reasonably sized clamps. It still looks like a quality product, but somehow it doesn`t feel as “prestigious” as my other leather men without the locking tools. I don`t have anything negative to say about quality, it`s still great. The blade and tools are tightly stretched out of the box, so you can open them without losing your nails, but firm enough that they don`t float during use. I think this may remind me of the Chinese Ledermann multi-tool clones from 20 years ago, which had no locking blades and were either way too loose or extremely tight. The Bond is not like that at all, but still feels a small step away from a “real” leather man. The only place it really loses points for me is that you have to pay £15 for the pocket clip. It`s a small curved piece of metal and two minute screws to shout loud Leatherman, put one in each box for free!! An excellent value for money folding knife that has no locking mechanism.
Comes with 12 individual tools and offers amazing value for money. Very heavy in hand high quality feeling. Scope of delivery: knife, flat and Phillips screwdriver, bottle opener, corkscrew, scissors, fish descaler and a utility clip. Total length: 6.2″, Blade length: 2″, Closed length: 4.2″ I hope I have explained how knife laws in the UK affect when and how you can wear a multitool. And I hope you have ideas on how to still be a multi-tool MacGyver in public without the risk of being arrested. This is a common question I am asked, and it is not surprising. Is a multi-tool considered a weapon? Is it legal to carry a multitool? No one innocently wants to carry our favorite multitool and get arrested! I`m not a lawyer, but I`ve done a lot of research to get an answer for my colleagues at MacGyvers to the question. “Are multi-tools legal in the UK?” These multi-tools are also most likely legal to wear, because if they have a cutting edge, it probably doesn`t exceed 3 inches. And if they have a blade, it`s not a locking blade because these multi-tools have no moving parts. One-piece multi-tools are perfect for hanging your key ring. I wear the Boker Plus Toucan Neck Knife Slip ringed on my keychain because I like the solid shape and the useful little knife. Credit card multi-tool gets its name because it can slip into the credit card slot of your wallet.
Therefore, their dimensions are limited in size and shape, but they can pack a lot of utility in the size of their credit card. It seems like a new version comes out every week and they`re usually reasonably priced, so I own a few. My current wallet is the Cha-O-Ha Design Everyday Carry card. Made of high quality SV35N stainless steel and with a lever rod, cutting edge, bottle opener and other tools. However, the focus is on hexagonal keys with 23 sizes in one tool. Not bad. It is illegal to carry a knife in public for no good reason – unless it is a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, for example some of the smaller Leatherman multi-tools. In early 2018, the UK government announced that it would try to pass a law banning the sending of knives purchased online to your home. If you have to go somewhere to get your knife, the legality can be checked and the age of the person receiving it can be verified.
It is anything but foolproof. It is also not certain that this ban on home delivery should also apply to multi-tools. It is legal to wear a multitool in public if the multitool has a knife with a cutting edge of 3 inches (7.62 cm) or less AND if it is a friction blade. I think if you are worried about laws, you should not leave the house, but try to stay there legally. I`m not a lawyer, so nothing I`ve said in this article is legal advice. Also, keep in mind that using a knife (legal or illegal) is also dangerously illegal. Threatening use of your (legal) Swiss Army knife is always illegal. I think it`s a matter of “good reason” to have one, so if it`s with your bike kit, then you might have a legitimate excuse – if it`s just in your pocket, then it`s harder to show. Every Day Carry knives can be just as effective as tools with larger locking blades. The Leatherman EDC range of multi-tools comes with several tools and is up to most of the tasks you face at home or in the field.
It is illegal to carry a knife in public for no good reason – unless it is a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, for example some of the smaller Leatherman multi-tools. The police can stop at any time and ask you what you`re doing and where you`re going, but you don`t have to answer them. It`s up to you. However, they can search them if they have “reasonable grounds” to suspect that you are carrying a firearm. The definition of “reasonable grounds” is quite vague, so you might expect to be searched. If you have a “good reason” to carry your multi-tool with its locking knife or friction blade over 3 inches, you`re fine. Otherwise, you run the risk of being arrested. If I need a larger knifeless multi-tool, I use the proven Gerber MP600 Multi-Plier Bladeless.
He gets my multi-tool recommendation without a knife. You can read about this on my Recommended Multi-Tools page.
